Home Battery Scheme Kicks Off in SA
As announced by the South Australian government in September, from 29 October — approved batteries purchased through an authorised System Provider will be eligible for a subsidy of up to $6,000.
The pricing is dictated by the nameplate capacity of the battery — $500 per kWh or $600 if you are an Energy concession holder. So a battery with 5kW storage would be eligible to the order of $2,500 or even $3,000 for a concessionaire.
Authorised System Providers are those that employ CEC accredited installers, install CEC approved kit and, until January 2019, must have local offices, staff SA residents and install batteries manufactured or assembled in State.
Batteries must additionally have internet connectivity, be grid connected, carry minimum warranties (5 years for product plus workmanship, 7 for performance) and be capable of becoming a part of a VPP (Virtual Power Plant).
